Gare du Nord

Price:
Menu: French cuisine

In the quiet North lies the authentic village of San Juan. On Sundays it is a madhouse there, because that is when the hippie market is held. And on June 23 and 24, the festival is “Día de San Juan.” But San Juan and es Figueral has more to offer than folklore parades, fireworks and hippies. Among other nice restaurants, like Gare du Nord by Dutch Ramon and Annemarie, who have lived on the island since 2009. Lovers of gastronomy, fine wine and a cozy intimate atmosphere have come to the right place. Chic, yet very accessible, this eatery is subtly tucked away on a hillside, diagonally across from the church. Entirely complete with a stylish cozy interior and a magical garden with a playhouse for children.

Gare du Nord’s renowned chef Emmanuel Anzel Martinez is inspired by traditional French cuisine, but with an international contemporary twist. The produce is seasonal and the local products of high quality, the menus are therefore renewed seasonally.

We ate as starters the seasonal mushrooms with foie and poached egg, Thai red lentil-coconut soup flavored with chili and coriander oil and as main courses confit duck with black beans, ranchera, habanero syrup and banana patties and corvina (fish) with Indian nut curry, mussels, pak choi and spicy squash. Add to that a fantastic wine and you have a dream meal. We will definitely come back!
