San Carlos

We are in love with San Carlos. This is still real Ibiza. And a lot quieter than many other parts of the island. It is quieter because you are a little further from the city. Anyway, if you are in Cala Vadella then it is actually just as far a drive to Ibiza Town. If you really want to visit the city often, this may not be the best place to stay. But if you are looking for a beautiful unspoiled place, then the San Carlos area is definitely recommended. Our little office also sits in the middle of this village, overlooking the cozy grassy area among the stores, pubs, restaurants, but of course also the unmissable church!

Hippie village

San Carlos became known as a hippie village in the 1960s and 1970s, when many of these peace lovers moved into the area’s typical fincas. Often they had no electricity or running water. Nice and primitive. And see what these fincas look like today. Many fortunately still retain the old style. Care is taken, especially by the old residents, many of whom have become millionaires with their farms. But there are also new residents who transform a finca into a wonderful luxury living space, with or without sea views.

Bar Anita

San Carlos’ most famous bar is Bar Anita. For a simple snack or cana (draft beer) you can come here. This used to be the only place in the area where phone calls could be made. This phone is still there and can still be used :). Another fun fact: Bar Anita has a series of mailboxes. Mail is not delivered to homes everywhere, so many residents still use these mailboxes. And then also have a good reason to take that cold lager for a while….

Las Dalias market

If you are in the San Carlos area you cannot miss the Las Dalias market! A fun hippie market that takes place every Saturday, where you can look around accompanied by a tune, and perhaps buy a nice gift for yourself or someone at home. But Las Dalias is also more these days. Namaste takes place, with live performances and chill-out music on Wednesday nights. And in winter, the people gather for the Christmas market. June is also a very nice time to be around San Carlos: the Ai Carai festival takes place then, a very nice music festival.
